Early Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer That Every Women Needs to Know
Ovarian Cancer is consider as one of the silent killer, it is a disease that causes death in every country throughout the world. Statistics say that almost 30% of all fatal cases in Canada itself are due to cancer if compared to some other diseases and severe health issues.
The Canadian and American Cancer Societies have estimated that there are 2800 new cases and 1750 deaths in Canada, while 22280 new cases and 14240 deaths in the United States due to ovarian cancer.
What is Ovarian Cancer?
The ovaries cells form tumors, which later become malignant, ovarian cancer develops. As we already said before, ovarian cancer is also called ‘silent killer’ and that is because often has little or maybe no symptoms, and it is very difficult to be detected with screening. Even though it mainly affects post-menopausal women, since recently it also affects women in younger age, or during their 30s and 40s. However, recent researches claim that the detection of the ovarian cancer in its early stages can significantly increase the chances of survival. Therefore, medical check-ups on regular basis are a must!
Reliable test is not available yet, unfortunately. False negative results can be provided by CA125 blood tests, and smear tests cannot be relied on because by these tests malignant cells cannot be picked up. But, there is also another problem when it comes to cancer detection. Cancer symptoms can often be mistaken with the symptoms of other diseases and health issues. As a result, the tumor is usually diagnosed at its later stages, or, unfortunately, when probably it is too late to be treated with success.
Symptoms that may be signs of Ovarian Cancer
1. Persistent Bloating
If you feel bloating, which is frequent and consistent, and if this condition lasts for more than three weeks, this can often be a sign or indicator for a growth of a cancerous tumor.
2. Lower Abdominal and Pelvic Pain
Despite being normal, menstrual cramps and painful period, one of the signs for ovarian cancer can be a persistent, more than three weeks, pain. Women, pre-menopausal women, mainly consider these symptoms as part of their usual period pain, but they should be very careful.
3. Difficulty eating/feeling full quickly
Loss of appetite, or at least decreased appetite, all of a sudden, and if it lasts for more than three weeks can also be an indicator of some ailments, such as intestine, bowels, stomach. However, you better visit your doctor and communicate your symptoms because such signs can also be indicator for cancer.
4. Increased need to urinate
If your liquid intake is the same as usual, and toilet visits become more frequent than usual, it can be a sign of an ovarian cancer. Also, urgent need and inability to hold the pee can be considered as another sign of ovarian cancer.
Unfortunately, all of these symptoms can be related to health issues with the urinary tract of with the gastrointestinal tract. But, if you notice some of these signs and indicators, and if they last for a prolonged period of time, then you must initially observe their frequency and persistence. If they are still present after few weeks, then you must visit your doctor as soon as possible and get a check-up.
Learning how to recognize the symptoms is the main point in the early detection and if the ovarian cancer is detected earlier, there is a greater chance of survival and successful fight against it.
